Pakistan No 1 Aamir Atlas Khan and his cousin Farhan Mehboob are optimistic of wining medals at the Asian Games, which commenced on 12th November in Guangzhou, China.

“In the past I have enjoyed a good record against the players who will be competing at the Asian Games. I’m likely to encounter top Malaysian players Mohammad Azlan Iskandar and Ong Beng Hee, who are ranked above me in the world circuit, but I am confident that I will give them a tough time,” World No 23, Aamir Atlas Khan told PPI.

Aamir added that the Pakistan squash team could also win gold in the team event as well with the squad made up of World No 30 Farhan Mehboob, World No 81 Yasir Butt and Danish Atlas, Aamir’s younger brother.

“Farhan, Yasir and Danish are also very good players and we have a good chance of winning in the team event. We are very confident as we are in good form and we have been training well for the event,” Aamir said.

Meanwhile, Farhan Mehboob also sounded upbeat at his prospects.

“I have defeated Malaysian Azlan Iskandar, Ong Beng Hee and Indian No 1 Saurav Ghousal. So winning a medal in Asian Games is not an impossible task. All you need is concentration and spirited show. So I am going all out to win gold and I would try my level best to reach my goal,” Farhan said.

Farhan also said that Pakistan had a bright chance of winning the team event. “If Aamir or I lose one of our match, we can still bank on Yasir Butt in the third and decisive match. He is also a very good player and capable of pulling upsets,” Farhan added.

Farhan recently defeated World No 1 Egyptian Wael El Hindi in the first round of Al Gouna Open in Egypt. However, another Egyptian Omar Mosaad defeated Farhan in the next round.

“I have recently defeated World No 10 Wael El Hindi of Egypt. So I am confident of pulling upsets in the Asian Games also. I am fit and in good form. I am really looking forward to put up a good show in China and bring laurels for the country,” Farhan said.
